Direct Employer Training Routes for New Recruits
If an apprenticeship scheme is not suitable for a new employee, there are numerous qualifications in the building services sector. The main levels are:
> National Vocational Qualifications / Scottish Vocational Qualifications
> National Certificate / National Diploma
> Higher National Certificate / Higher National Diploma
> Degree level - BEng and MSc
The qualifications chart shows the range of NVQs and SVQs available in the sector.
For higher level qualifications, it's wise to ensure that they meet the criteria for registered engineer status. Many of the professional institutions within the sector give details of colleges and universities offering degree courses accredited by them and HNC/HND courses which may in part or fully satisfy the educational base for Engineering Technician, Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer registration.
