Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs)

CoVEs are specialist areas of vocational provision characterised by close links between colleges, other providers, business partners, other employment interests and community. They aim to produce appropriately qualified and skilled workers with excellent employment and career prospects which meet the needs of the economy.

CoVEs are awarded, funded and monitored by the Learning & Skills Council. CoVE status is generally awarded to FE colleges or training providers who have shown excellence through good achievement rates, good staffing and facilities, employer engagement and the ability to share good practice with other centres. On occasions two or three colleges join forces to establish a collaborative CoVE.

SummitSkills works with CoVEs regionally and is contributing nationally to the Learning & Skills Development Agency specialist development group meetings. The LSDA is working on behalf of the LSC to support the CoVE network in this way.

Training Quality Standard

Introduced by the Learning and Skills Council, the Training Quality Standard (previously known as the 'New Standard') is an assessment and accreditation process for training providers in England, including those previously recognised as CoVEs.  It is designed to recognise excellence in delivering training and development solutions to employers.
